Introduction

Simple pendulum experiment is a necessary experiment in college basic physics and middle school physics teaching. In order to study the relationship between them, periodic measurement must be carried out at different swing angles, even at large swing angles. The traditional method of cycle measurement uses manual stopwatch timing, and the measurement error is large. In order to reduce the error, it is necessary to take the average value after multi period measurement. Due to the existence of air damping, the swing angle decays with the extension of time, so it is impossible to accurately measure the accurate value of swing period under large angle. After using the integrated switch Hall sensor and electronic timer to realize automatic timing, the period of a simple pendulum at a large angle can be accurately measured in a few short vibration cycles, so that the influence of air damping on the swing angle can be ignored, and the experiment on the relationship between the period and the swing angle can be carried out smoothly. After the relationship between the period and the swing angle is obtained, the vibration period with very small swing angle can be accurately measured by extrapolating to zero swing angle, so that the gravity acceleration can be more accurately measured.

 

Experiments

1. Measure the swinging period with a fixed string length, and calculate the gravitational acceleration.

2. Measure the swinging period by varying string length, and calculate the corresponding gravitational acceleration.

3. Verify the pendulum period is proportional to the square of the string length.

4. Measure the swinging period by varying initial swing angle, and calculate the gravitational acceleration.

5. Use extrapolation method to acquire accurate gravitational acceleration at extra small swinging angle.

6. Study the influence of non-linear effect under large swing angles.
